Down The TBR Hole #9 & Buddy Read with me?

This is week nine of Down The TBR Hole, which a meme hosted by yours truly here on Lost In A Story. I’m also interested in buddy reading again, since I had so much fun doing that before, see the list at the bottom for more info.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when youre scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well thats going to change!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

The Books:

Only looking at the cover of this book makes me go “ugh no” and when reading the synopsis I think exactly the same. A muted girl that gets back her voice, which is apparently super powerful and also she falls in love with a musician.

The Judgement: GO

I really liked the movie, so I should definitely read this one (also people have been bugging me about this book for ages, so I should probably just get it over with).

The Judgement: KEEP

You know, it’s Veronica Roth, soooo… Everybody has probably read the Divergent series which I really enjoyed, so I’m going to keep this one too.

The Judgement: KEEP

I need this pretty thing so my trilogy is complete! So stunning and also an awesome series, it has dimensional travelling!

The Judgement: KEEP

I should learn not to add sequels before reading the first in a series. This is exactly why my TBR is such a mess. Goodbye (for now)

The Judgement: GO

Did I make the right decisions? Have you read these books?

  1. I would love to do a buddy read with you! I have a couple of those books on my Beat the Backlist shelf as well (Graceling, The Bone Season, and Illuminae are some of my top books to read) so it would be cool to knock those out with a friend. You have a really swell list going there, and I’m excited to see what you think about the ones I’ve already read. 🙂

    1. Oh yeah me too! I can’t wait to read The Sun is Also a Star, I promised myself not to buy any more books before I’ve read at least some of the books I already own, but maybe I can borrow it from someone..?

  2. I’d really love to buddy read a book with you, even if we haven’t actually talked before haha. If you want, we could read Heartless or The Sun is also a Star 🙂

Also, I just wanted to say that from the books I’ve read from your list

  3. Oops I posted it before I could finish… Sorry!

I was saying that of the books I’ve read, I’d definitely recommend Six of Crows and An Ember in the Ashes, and if you read this second one, you’ll definitely find yourself wanting to read A Torch Against the Night. Sorry again for the double comment!

    1. Buddy reading would be lovely! It doesn’t matter that we haven’t talked before, I would love to get to know you better 🙂
Ah yes Six of Crows and An Ember in the Ashes have been recommended to me so many times, I should definitely read them!

      1. Aww that’s sweet! I’d love to get to know you too. What book would you prefer? And I can’t remember if you have a bookstagram account, but if you do we could talk through there 🙂

      3. Oh in my other comment I said I’d like either The Sun is also a Star or Heartless… I own both of them in eBook form. Your choice! I’ll follow you on bookstagram right now 🙂

  4. I love this idea! I’m going to have to use this to clean up my TBR list on goodreads. I’m doing a buddy read for Heartless this month if your interested 🙂 I’ve got a few other books on your list and would be open to adding another.

    1. Thanks! I would have to buy the book, and I sort of promised myself not to buy any more books before I read some of the books I already own, but ehmm I’ll see what I can do 😅
I would love to buddy read together!

  5. With a lot of these I either don’t own them, or have read them, except for A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. I’ve only read the first chapter (which I really enjoyed, just a lot of information to absorb). So if you’re open to reading that with me, I’m all up for it!

    1. Same here, I literally had A Brief History of Time on my nightstand for a year, having only read the first chapter! I thought it was really interesting, but I just never got any further than that. So I’d love to read it together!

      1. We should definitely do that, even if it’s just a few chapters a month, we can just make a goal to finish it by a certain month so it’s not so much

  6. I really hope you like The Lightning Thief – it blows the movie right out of the water! I read the book before I watched the movie and let’s just say I was really disappointed in the movie… but I’ve been told by a lot of people who haven’t read it that they liked it well enough…

    1. I did watch the movie and liked it, so I then I should like the book even more, right? Thanks, I hope I like it too (everybody seems to, so…)

  7. I support all your decisions for your TBR. At first I was worried about your cutting A Torch Against the Night, but then you mentioned not having read An Ember in the Ashes, which I highly recommend! 😀 Also, I’d love to buddy read with you! I have yet to read The Sun is Also A Star, This Savage Song, Ruin and Rising, P.S. I Like You, and The Unexpected Everything. I’d love to read any of those with you 😀

    1. I have the tendency to add entire series to my tbr before I have read the first book, which clutters my tbr and is quite annoying. So I’m removing all those sequels.
Yayy! I’ll let you know once I have the time to read any of those. I still need tor read Siege and Storm before I can start Ruin and Rising.. and the other books I don’t yet own.

      1. I do the exact same thing haha. Getting rid of all those sequels is severely reducing my TBR! I’m so surprised by how many I have on there LOL

And yay! And I don’t own any of those books haha. So I’ll also let you know when I get my hands on one or more of them 😀

  8. I also have the tendency of adding sequels to my TBR but like I kinda like having them there. I don’t know I’m weird. I might just do this every now and again because lord knows my TBR needs some cleaning to do. Also, if you ever want to buddy read, I’m pretty sure you’ve read all of these books already, let me know which books you want to buddy read because I’m always looking for more people to buddy read with!

    1. Well we’re all a little odd 🙂
I think every TBR could use a little cleaning up every now and then! Yes I think I did read pretty much all of these since this post went up. Do you have a goodreads account? It’s easier to chat on there.
